Cinnamon Benefits - Cinnamon is a spice in the form of bark, commonly used by the people of Indonesia in their daily lives. Besides being used as a flavor enhancer in cooking and baking, cinnamon is also known to have a variety of properties. Currently cinnamon has also been a part of the raw materials in herbal medicine and beauty industry.

Chemical properties of cinnamon are warm, spicy, fragrant, and slightly sweet. Meanwhile, the chemical constituents of cinnamon include essential oil, safrole, sinamadehide, eugenol, tannins, resins, calcium oksanat, and tanning substances. This plant is very suitable to be planted in the tropics with 2000-3000 mm rainfall per year with high humidity and a short dry season.

Cinnamon can add fresh and delicious flavors in cooking. However, its use must be as prescribed. For example, for a soupy dishes, use 5 cm of cinnamon for every 1 liter of water. For bread, cakes or anything else, simply add at least a teaspoon of cinnamon powder.

Typically, taste and aroma of cinnamon powder sharper than the cinnamon sticks. However, cinnamon powder does not last long. Cinnamon powder that is outdated can be known from the bland flavor.

According to an herbal medicine expert, Prof. Hembing Wijayakusuma, cinnamon efficacious as a medicine for gout, high blood pressure, ulcers, no appetite, headache (vertigo), colds, diarrhea, flatulence, vomiting, gernia, constipation, asthma, thrush , painful urination, and others. In addition, cinnamon does have the required pharmacological effect in medicine. Bark, leaves and roots can be used as an antirheumatic drug, sweating bullets (diaphoretik), laxative fart (carminative), increased appetite (Istomachica), and relieve pain.

Here are some of cinnamon benefits for health :

  1. To treat high blood pressure: Take 2 fingers of cinnamon, 10 grams trengguli acid, 10 grams kencur, sena leaves 15 grams and 20 grams of sage leaves. Then, boil with 500 cc of water to the remaining 200 cc. The water is filtered and drink while warm. Other Recipes: 1 finger cinnamon, 10 grams trengguli acid, 60 grams of corn silk, and 30 grams of celery leaves, boiled with 600 cc of water until the remaining 200 cc. Filtered water and drink while warm. 
  2. To overcome the uric acid: take the thumb-sized cinnamon, 5 grams of nutmeg, cardamom 5 grains, 5 grains of cloves, 200 grams of red sweet potato, 10 grains of pepper, and 15 grams of red ginger. Potions are boiled with 1,500 cc of water, and leave it to the remaining 500 cc. Then filtered and add 200 cc of liquid milk and drink. Another recipe: thumb-sized cinnamon, 15 grams of red ginger, 5 grams of nutmeg, cardamom 5 grains, 5 grains of cloves, and 4 sheets of leaf duck bill. Boil these ingredients with 600 cc of water until the water remaining 300 cc. Then filtered and drink.
  3. To overcome flatulence and colds: take 5 grams cinnamon, 10 grams of ginger, 5 cloves grains, 5 grams pulasari, 5 grams of fennel, 5 grams of nutmeg and palm sugar to taste. Potions are boiled in 800 cc of water and leave until the remaining 450 cc. Then filtered and drink while warm, 150 cc for a drink. Do it three times a day. 
  4. To overcome ulcer: boil 10 grams of cinnamon with 200 cc of water and leave it to the remaining 100 cc, then filtered and drink while warm.
  5. To treat diarrhea: take 5 grams of cinnamon and 5 pieces of guava leaves. Potions are boiled with 600 cc of water and leave it to the remaining 300 cc. Water decoction is filtered and added sugar to taste, then taken twice a day, 150
