wine and breast cancer
Alcohol and Breast Cancer - Do you frequently consume alcoholic beverages? If so, you should stop that habit now. Besides it is not good for health, apparently drinking three glasses of alcohol a week may increase a woman's risk of breast cancer, according to a study.

Women in the study who drank 3-6 glasses of wine per week, 15 percent more likely to develop breast cancer. Scientists claim is based on data taken over a period of 28 years.

This study adds evidence on the relationship between alcohol consumption and increased risk of breast cancer. Consumption in moderate to high amounts previously been associated with risk of breast cancer, and now the effect of lower levels of consumption amounts apparently are equally daunting.

Involving 105.986 women, the study was implemented from 1980-2008 as part of the Nurses Health Study. All participants were asked to answer questionnaires at regular intervals about their alcohol consumption and whether they have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

During the study period, found 7.690 cases of invasive breast cancer were diagnosed. However, cases increased from 333 cases to 100,000 cases of breast cancer in women who drank 3-6 glasses of wine per week.

"The risks were found in this study are real. So although good for the heart, women still need to think about its effect on cancer risk," explains researcher Dr Wendy Chen, of the Brigham Women's Hospital in Boston, USA.
